SHORT SUMMARY

This issue is starting with the traditional section Nota Bene by the Editor-in-Chief Valeria Uralskaya. She writes about problems of the Russian dance and folk choreography.

"Reviews" section contains reviews on last two important Russian ballet premieres of the season. Alexander Kolesnikov writes about "Swan Lake" at the Bolshoi Theatre and Valeria Uralskaya reviews "Nutcracker" at the Maryinsky Theatre. In this section you can also find an article about last premiere of Russian Ballet Company.

The Piatnitsky Russian Folk Choir has celebrated its' 90-th anniversary. An article by Galina Inozemtseva is dedicated to this event. Another Contemporary Dance Competition was recently held in Ekaterinburg. The magazine contains an article about it by our author from the Urals Natalia Kyrumova.

The situation with the alternative schools lately developing in Russia is described in the selection of articles called "Alternative Schools".

In this issue the traditional section "Portraits" is dedicated to the prima ballerina of the Maryinsky Theatre Yulia Makhalina. The author Nina Alovert who is also a famous photo artist presents her photos of Makhalina for different years.

The magazine has started to publish the novel by Auguste Ehrhard "Fanny Elssler" (translated from French by Nina Kudriavtseva-Lyri). Russian readers don't know this book. It is a detailed biography of a dancer who played an important part in the dance history.

In this issue you will also find the usual sections "Inform-Ballet" and "From the Abroad". They contain different facts and information on Russian and international ballet events.
